CAST_IT - Material Mixing with Porcelain

Controlled Multi-material Deposition

Quite an extraordinary project I had the chance to work on with my former teacher Alexandros Tsamis (currently at CASE).

The porcelain extrusion device was created using digital fabrication tools that were accessible at the institution, including waterjetting the aluminum frame and 3D printing with various materials.

From the initial prototypes, several modifications were made, including active mixing using a stepper motor and mechanical components, simple nozzle diameter adjustments, polyurethane heads for the pistons, simple assembly to make cleaning easier, and more.

Together with modeling and fabrication, I had to set up the electronics within a "power-box", as well as programming the Arduino using Marlin 1.1.x and the Kuka robotic arm with Rhinoceros and Grasshopper with Kuka PRC.
